Cyprus is not naturally Turkish or Greek. Most Cypriots today tend to think of themselves as Greek (though the Greeks don't generally think of Cypriots this way). The Turks did conquer the island long ago, though now they only occupy part of it. From an archaeological standpoint, Cyprus has had closer cultural connections to Anatolia and the Levant than to Greece throughout its entire history. From a genetic standpoint, Cypriots are neither Turkish nor Greek.
